Maybe it’s because I’m still grieving over missing the awesome list challenge about creating the soundtrack of your life, maybe it’s because I just wrote a post about Valentine’s Day and what makes my heart happy or maybe it’s because I’m a total movie geek (yea, that’s the probably the one).
Since love is the subject of this week’s listicle, I decided to list 10 movies I love, about love.
1. Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind
After finding out his recent ex-girlfriend has had a medical procedure to wipe her memory of him completely, Joel decides to do the same but changes his mind half way through the procedure and must find ways to hide away his memories before they are erased. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet are amazing as Joel and Clementine. Also in the movie, Elijah Wood, Kristen Dunst, David Cross and Mark Ruffalo. I have no idea how or why this movie didn’t get the attention it deserves.
It’s about When things are messy and hard and the person you are with makes you crazy and things are not perfect but you want to be with them anyway, that’s love.
2. Happy Accidents
Sam (Vincent D’Onofrio) loves Ruby (Marisa Tomei ) so much, he would time travel to save her life. Or maybe he’s just crazy. Either way, they connect in a way no one understands but somehow is meant to be. A sort of sci-fi love movie for grown ups, This movie is so romantic, sweet, funny and beautiful.
3. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
I was caught off guard by the rich, beautiful and tragic love stories in this movie. Two very different couples, deeply in love but unable be together because of tradition, honor and a restless spirit. The fight scenes are as beautiful and incredibly shot as the love scenes.
4. True Romance
This is love, Quentin Tarantino style. Big action scenes, matching tattoos, a quickie wedding, an all star cast and some incredible monologues by the likes of Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman and Christopher Walken to name a few. Pretty violent in parts but the love story is awesome and fun.
5. The Illusionist
Edward Norton is a great magician who falls in love with a woman (Jessica Biel) well above his social class and is forced to use talent and tricks in the hopes of keeping her. Another movie that is beautiful to watch with an ending you don’t see coming.
6. Crazy, Stupid, Love
After he is taken under the wing of super slick ladies man Ryan Gosling, Steve Carel must find himself and the strength to fight for his failing marriage to Julianne Moore. The cast is amazing, the story is awesome and I finally get the Ryan Gosling obsessions now – Haha! Try not to fall in love with him while watching this movie.
7. Coal Miners Daughter
Maybe this isn’t exactly a romantic movie but it is funny, tragic, sweet and kind of incredible. Not a great husband (he cheats, she writes a hit song about it), Tommy Lee Jones is great as Doolittle Lynn and Sissy Spacek is awesome as Loretta. I have watched this so many times, I can sing along with every song in the movie.
8. The Bride Came C.O.D.
No trailer for this one but here’s the IMDB page
In this 1941 movie, a broke James Cagney is hired to kidnap a spoiled socialite (Betty Davis) by her father after she plans to run off and elope with a band leader she’s only known for 4 days. Things go wrong, they get stranded, hate each other and of course, fall in love. Cute, funny and sweet watch, one for the Netflix crowd or catch it on Turner Classic Movie channel.
9. Going the Distance
The ultimate movie for anyone who’s ever been in a long distance relationship. I love the honesty in this movie and how sweet and really funny it is as well. Justin Long is really good, I loved Christina Applegate as the cynical older sister and Drew Barrymore is as cute as always.
10. The Princess and The Warrior
A lonely nurse falls in love after being saved during an accident by a handsome, distant stranger. Kind of a darker love story, still a favorite. This is before Franka Porte did the Jason Borne movies, Benno Fürmann is perfect as the haunted, brooding hero.
Hope you enjoyed! Looking forward to reading all the love-lists this week.
And – Happy Valentines Day to all!
