For Wednesday’s Woman – Every Mother Counts

Happy Wednesday!

I’m back over at Sperk* today for my monthly contribution for Wednesday’s Woman and feel I found an incredible woman to honor for August.

She is a mother, wife, film maker and long time advocate for preventable health and wellness. Oh yea, and she rocked the modeling world for many years as well!

From her desire to educate and compassion for others, Christy Turlington Burns has become as activist for two important causes, both close to her heart.

After losing her father to lung cancer and overcoming her own nicotine addiction, she created the website – Smoking Is Ugly.com in 2002 to help inform others on the health risks as well as providing resources to others wanting to quit.

Her more recent and possibly more well known work is her 2010 documentary on maternal mortality around the world, No Woman No Cry and the creation of her organization for this cause, Every Mother Counts.

I hope you’ll take a few moments to come over at Sperk* to learn more about the work this week’s Wednesday’s Woman is doing for women around the world. While you’re there, take a look around the site, Kim is amazing, inspirational and a wonderful writer herself!

  1. I’ve been a smoker for 20 years. For my birthday tomorrow, I’m quitting. I’ve known of the heath issues, but have always given up when trying to stop. Something in this piece struck a nerve. I’m going to do it. Thank you for being a phenomenal contributor to Wednesday’s Woman.

    • That is so awesome Kim! Awesome and amazing news, I’m really happy for you! I also smoked for over 10 years, it’s hard to quit but 1000 percent worth it. So glad this Wed. Woman had suck a positive effect. Good luck!
